@AkademicDesignLabs You're talking to a 32 year old with 15 years in the business, and there are more plugins in existence than the ones that come with fruity loops. With the best out there, you'd fail a blind test, for sure. I'm certain some of your favourite tracks out there that you think were done entirely with hardware have actually used a ton of plugins.

@1wibble2 Kid, I work in studios, I nearly live in them. Don't worry. I know exactly what I'm talking about, and better believe I can tell the difference between a lame FL plugin and a rich, hardware-filtered sample.

@AkademicDesignLabs You're the one with no idea, all those big ass studios with tons of hardware equipment, you'd be surprised to know most of the producers in those studios are now using plugins. Sounds you think are hardware on a track, are really just plugins ;)

@AkademicDesignLabs Actually, with today's computing it's nigh on impossible to tell the difference between certain minimum phase digital EQ's and real analog. That's not coming from me either; it's straight out of Bob Katz's book on mastering.

@AkademicDesignLabs The problem with you, kid, is that you have no idea what's out there these days. You're stuck in a mindset that you MUST use hardware to get the sound you want. That's completely false. You've just never been exposed to the right types of filters and plugins (if you've even ever tried to use them.) Trust me kid, I can make any beat sound like it came from your 10 year old piece of equipment. Everything from the "crackling" sound of vinyl to the tube harmonics.
