  • I would just like to tell you that, I am a 36 year old man, and I love all my teachers that I had growing up. I wouldnt say they were the best , but they loved their job and looking back my god how does one put up with such disgusting little pukes talking back and just being disrespectful and mean. Yet they came back every day with a smile on there face, Which made me smile and think life is good. To blame a teacher for the way your worthless disrespectful child turns out is ridiculous.

  • I Struggle with school, And my Parents are constantly getting on to me about grades, and trying to work with me, However my teachers are worthless, spend too much time talking about personal life, have no sense of heart, rude, and ignorant. Teachers DO SUCK. It's not my job to have to pay for a tutor for anything, if my parents tax dollars are paying these fuckers, they better be good.

  • I'm a straight-A student; Please fire the worthless teachers that waste time during class

  • Certainly, parents should play an increased role in their child's education but poverty and standardized testing will always be the main reasons for why education lags in America.

  • A huge flaw in this argument is that Bill is assuming that every child has two parents in the household and the resources available to have a personal library at home. Because every child is presented with that opportunity, right?

  • Utterly great, he makes great points.

  • While I completely agree that parents are primarily at fault for children not learning, it's also true that teachers don't teach children either -- and haven't been for many years now. I honestly wish parents COULD be fired from their job of raising children. Sadly we can't control how parents raise kids. We CAN, however, control how teachers teach kids.

As Bill Maher says, "Not all teachers are bad." In this I also agree. We should fire those who are incompetent, and replace them....

  • The poster below didn't listen to a single word that Maher said... every school, rich, poor or private, all have good & bad teachers. It's not the school, it's the parents! Parents must read books at home in front of their children other than the Bible! And get subscriptions to National Geographic & Ranger Rick!

  • Parental involvement is important but in order to make it a parental matter, first you have to have a system where the parents are free to choose what school their children go to, right now they cant (neglecting the option of priviate school) no matter how incompetent the school or the teachers. A system without competition inevitably fails, because those who fail inevitably succeed.

  • you know nothing about this who these kids parents are you base all your information on strereotypes tips& may adknowlege your not a parent but its still realy convenyant to blame people you know nothing about

  • if your kids are strogling in school or falling be hind or just slacking off do,nt blame the schools do,nt blame media do,nt blame bush blame your self
