Jamie, Buster, and Adam get a bath. They're not too pleased about it, but they need one sometimes!

  • What kind of shampoo do you use for your rat baths? Any kind or specific animal or rat shampoo?

  • they have a prescription shampoo now, but it is suggested you can use kitten or baby shampoo if you're needing to wash them.

  • Bathing a rat helps prevent health problems. While rats are good at keeping their faces and paws clean, their bodies and tails need extra attention to remove dead skin, urine, feces, and "buck wax" in the case of males.

Some rats like it, others don't. Frankly, not giving your pet a bath because it "doesn't like it" is akin to not giving a pet medicine because it doesn't like it.

Pets are like children. They don't always like what's best for them.

  • my demorick hate water but he getting a bath .

  • Its fine that that squeak when you wash them because when they squeak, it only means they dont like it..(:

  • People here are saying don't bath them because they clean themselves and they hate it. Well rats don't keep their entire body's clean. And my little Josè smells like acid piss. :/ he needs a bath.

  • for everyone trying this at home, DONT....

rats keep themselves clean, unless the vet tells u to give it a bath with a prescription shampoo dont wash them, water is ok for rats in the summer to cool them down a bit, but only if THEY want to, not becouse you want to...

  • @PunkRnR13 yea but can't you see the rat does'nt like it? bitch!

  • For pet rats you shouldn't just drop in the water. That actually scares them. There is a video here on youtube that will actually show you how to introduce Rats to water.

  • @PunkRnR13 ahem... unless they get sprayed by another rat, or roll in mud... no they dont. (take it from an experianced rat owner). They despise it, fear it, and its downright cruel

  • Yea I washed mine in the kitchen sink, and they can jump high. LOL They are very clean compared to many other pets, but every once in awhile they do need a bath, specially their tails need to cleaned and the dead skin scrubbed off or they get stained.

My rat loved the towel dry though. :)
