  • @Gretchluver1 the police singled out Lawande from harris and Levy because he was more communcative in he saw the mans face where they only saw the back of him, ironic really when he only saw the back of eddowes.. if it was eddowes that is.

  • @gentle7ways7 If we had that dossier it would probably answer so many questions, but alas due to lack of evidence on the subject, no one will ever know the true identity of JtR for certain. We can speculate but never accuse conclusively with a case that would hold up in court, then or now. Also I was wrong about Lawende indeed, my bad on that one. It was the other Joseph (Hyam Levy) who said it. Harry Harris denied seeing either the man or Eddowes, didn't he?

  • @Gretchluver1 one thing that bugs me about this case on Tumblety what happend to the huge police dossier that they had on him at scotland yard?

  • @Gretchluver1 Joseph Lawende saw eddowes from the rear he didn't see her face and he does say the man with her was that of a sailer in dress or appearance he also states him to be 5ft 7 to 5ft 9 but that is if he was the killer and he got eddowes right? the man hutchinson described was of jewish complexion compared with the fair almost that of a german looking man from Lawende? so definitely discrepancy or difference maybe tumblety killed after these men who knows?

  • @Gretchluver1 good lord i agree to many people making money with books pigeonholing the reader and there version of events i think alot of fiction has been thrown into the mix and has diluted the brandy somewhat, patricia cornwell jumped on the band wagon like all entrepreneurs, and i agree its about the elimination of what little there is of the accounts of the case that remains unfortunately every suspect is circumstantial or heresay as without a confession or capturing in the act first hand.

  • @gentle7ways7 Which two witnesses? Certainly not Miss Long or Joseph Lawende. They were both adament that the man they saw was a few inches taller than the victims they were seen with (both Chapman & Eddowes were 5 foot) making the man/men 5'3", not 5'10". As for the argument about age & looks due to Whitechapel, it sounds like you're clutching at straws there. Tumblety probably drank with the best of them, and even so it's rather immaterial. He's a likely suspect, but his case has MANY flaws.

  • @gentle7ways7 Stooped down to look smaller? Dude I think you're reading too much into the man. Rather than reading a book focusing on one particular Ripper suspect (which often twists the facts to suit the candidate a la Patricia Cornwell), read a book that has an overview of the whole saga and no bias or agenda, especially the Complete Jack The Ripper A-Z. A good Ripperolologist (if you will) eliminates suspects based on the facts, not choose a suspect and then select the evidence that matches.

  • especially if he was dressed in better clothing & adorned a new hat and if he stooped down making him smaller in stature? he could have clipped his distinctive moustache no big deal there really? he was more than a swindler read the book on him. the strange events being the murders happen where he traveled.

  • @Gretchluver1 he descriptions of the witness accounts including George Hutchinson may or may not have been the killer? they were the last men to be seen with the victims before there demise, but two do fit the age bracket and height that could dismiss tumblety, although there were many muddled descriptions at the time, people in the east end were older for there time through poverty and drunkenness the years on tumblety may have made him look younger...

  • @gentle7ways7 It is a coincidence and that's all. It is most certainly not proof. I just find his evidence too circumstantial. Tumblety was a big man and his details don't match any witness descriptions. He was older, taller and larger with an eccentric waxed moustache, he would have stood out as he would have wanted it. Also it doesn't seem right going from being a swindler to gutting women all of a sudden. Could you specify the very strange events?
