I remember hearing this once on the radio when it was new - well, I should say, after the Manfred Mann version was already popular - and at the time, I thought it was inferior to the cover version, which I was already familiar with. Well...after the passage of 35 years, I can say that my initial impression was wrong. This one's better.
I also misunderstood Manfred back then and thought he was singing "I'm hurt - she's mad" instead of the correct "I'm hers - she's mine." Well, I was only 10.

The lyrics that you heard at 10 may have been wrong but during the lifetime of a relationship your thoughts can drift between the two on a regular basis LOL

Thank you so much Andy for uploading this gem by The Exciters, as although I like it by Manfred Mann this version has got a great northern soul come Motown feel to it. Haven't heard this version in years 5***** cheers mate!!!
