Awesome to see a champ come out of WA instead of the usual Sydney or Melbourne horses. An extremely talented horse, and a champ without doubt, but I can't call him the greatest Australian racehorse ever. Nice footage, even though I don't usually like musical tributes (I just prefer racing commentary, that's all), you did a good job with this. Must've been hard to deciide exactly what to put in and what to leave out, he had so many top class performances.

Mate, you are a legend for posting this video! It is worth noting that Sunline never beat Northerly once in 3 attempts. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. VERY nice

@emmelby International ratings are based on how they are handicapped locally. So we should probably point toward the likes of Greg Carpenter for the reason of why our horses are so badly under-rated overseas. I see they've given Frankel a rating of 142. Since the 50's ANZ have had only seven rate in the 130's eg. Tulloch 138; Kingston Town 137; Manikato 134. Rubiton rated 126! At WFA over 8F then Frankel could beat Rubiton (at is best) by 16 lengths. I don't think so. It's a complete farce. JMO.

@bgardiner2000 The Caulfield Cup win was outstanding, and they were both totally underrated internationally. I have never understood the reluctance of international ratings people when it comes to getting ANZ horses over the 130 barrier. Sunline proved herself internationally more than once, and I don't doubt Northerly would've done the same given that he had the better of her. At least with SYT and BC they're finally taking notice.

@emmelby You're right... he was he greatest ever, but he was probably also the most under-rated. How he finished with a TF rating of 129, equal with Sunline is a travesty of racing in my opinion. And I think she was also under-rated. In terms of his peak performances his Caulfied Cup win should have gone 130-132 as a minimum. JMO.

haha exactly Norton and Lohnro spent his career dodging Northerly but they did meet once and he got thumped!

Northerly, i'll never forget you! Most courageous horse i ever see!
