The demise of the Pontiac mark is unfortunate. Pontiac stumbled, more than once, in the past decade. Pontiac Motor Division missed the boat on the Pontiac Aztec (of the love-it-or-hate-it school of design) and the botched attempt to resurrect the GTO name sake, earlier this decade. Geriatric baby-boomers will keep Buick and Cadillac production going. Middle-class Americans will continue to be "one of the herd' with their Chevrolets, and the redundant GMC will keep Chevy truck dealers honest.
