Philip Glass: company, pipa and guitar duo by Liu Fang & Michael 琵琶吉他二重奏

Beautiful and elegant interpretion of the celebrated Philip Glass's composition for string quartet, transcribed here for pipa (Chinese traditional string instrument) and classical guitar by Liu Fang and Michael O'Toole, recorded live on 26 September 2008 at Birr Arts Centre, during the tour in Ireland in association with their new CD release. This piece is a beautiful contemporary music for string instruments with the title "Company" composed by Philip Glass (1937- ) in 1983 for the dramatization of legendary Irish writer Samuel Beckett's prose poem 'Company'. This four movement piece has since achieved huge popularity because of the composers gift for simple melodies and effective use of cross-rhythms. Glass has had an incredibly varied and prolific career, writing music for successful films such as 'The Hours' and 'Mishima' and being feted around the world as one of the truly original voices of contemporary music.
