@iceolated75 yeah i mean its ok to turn the siren off when there is no one around but that was dumb to do that at an intersection.

god damn thats a long Q siren

ne drivers out there notice how everyone will stop for a stranded motorist with simple 4 way flashers on but won't for an engine? its so typical lol

Was that engine 2 or our rescue?

This last group of comments is exactly why my companies new rescue only has a Q siren. None can bitch about how much noise we are making when that is all we have. Well that and bad ass air horns. People are idiots and need to know we are coming.

we just got usar hah we had a conagra food factory blow up here and killed 4 people on scene for over 115 hrs

That wasn't much noise considering to circumstance, about normal for a fire truck response. The thing that I can't stand is when emergency vehicles respond and don't use their sirens effectively enough.

In Toronto we have a special unit for structural collapses and explosions. HUSAR, or Heavy Urban Search And Rescue. They worked on the Bloor West explosion. A strip mall blew up because of a severed gas line killing 7 people.
In any kind of urban setting you will usually hear a fire engine/trucks sirens long before you see it. Better to create some noise and raise the alert that an emergency vehicle is in the area than to run quieter and catch a driver or pedestrian off guard and create an additional emergency.
I was almost sideswiped by a police car running with lights and no sirens. He ran a red at an crowded intersection and almost hit me as I was crossing under green. All that noise serves a purpose.

All that noise so people are less likely to hit you. Plus, in our state, state law say if the lights are on and you are responding, your siren is on. I think cops are exempt, though a city near us just had 2 cop cars collide at an intersection.
