Brando checked into a real veteran hospital to prepare for this movie. His descriptions of it are heartbreak: some of the vets he met were young me in the prime of life who simply gave up and turned to drugs, alcohol, or even suicide. He even saw a few tell their wives to find another man who could hold them and make love to them. You can't help but be moved to tears by that.

god outside his tough exterior there is something so fragile and sensitive underneath in his performance, he brings characters to life and it is simply beautiful to watch
