Felling the last hackberry tree

Mike's cutting the last of the clump of hackberry trees that provided us shade, privacy, beauty, and birds and other wildlife...not to mention the occasional handful of hackberries I ate, for the past couple of decades since we moved here. Our front porch will never be the same...we'll miss them, but lightning damage several years ago made them a danger to the house...we put it off for several years, and today we just did it! It was only a matter of time before they would fall on the house. I'll miss playing the instruments in the shade of those trees and the way the birds sang with me from nearby hackberry branches.
