All of Me - Line Audio to GH1 Test

Recorded on a Lumix GH1, 14-140 kit lens, 30fps shutter, "Dynamic" movie mode, 1280x720 60p 17Mbps AVCHD format (.m2ts file converted to mpeg-4/mp3 for YouTube using HandBrake), fixed manual focus so it won't hunt, using piano's line output attenuated by a headphone volume controller ($10 at radio shack) for input to the GH1 external mic jack.

Unfortunately, the camera still applies auto-gain to the audio. I understand there's a way to disable the AGC by adding a constant high-frequency tone that can't be heard but tricks the AGC into a constant level. If I can figure out how to generate one maybe I'll try adding that to the piano's aux input, which it would then mix with the line out.

Ha. Your idea of hi-freq tone to diable AGC is pragmatic, but makes me cringe. Perhaps if enough of us complain to Panasonic (notorious deaf ears), they'll add a menu item that allows disabling the agc. Can you describe the pinout on the mic jack?

It's definitely not ideal. It seems to work, but I wonder if it messes up the audio encoder, compromising quality. I noticed in a frequency analyzer that the tone itself doesn't get encoded. The mic jack accepts a mini-stereo (2.5mm TRS) plug. There's nothing special to the pinout that I can tell, but I don't have anything else with which to test it.

I think the IA auto mode does better job in most situation handle video and picture setting.
