Wow...fortunately nothing got damaged besides the tree. When I was 7, our neighbors A/C unit got struck by lightning and they had to buy a new one...the sound it made freaked me out, haha!

o_O. Something similar happened to us last year. Our neighbors tree was struck by lightning, and fell over to our yard.

yea and i was stupid enough to stand by the metal polls. when i turned my camera off from taking pics from the back yard is when the lightning hit the tree in the front. closest i have ever been to lightning was in hs when a bolt hit the ground while i was trying to run to class and it was only maybe 15 feet away. i still remember how hot the air got when it hit.
