Nivida tend to be power hogs and they got hot pretty easy compared to ATI cards. Thinking of getting an ATI card.

To avoid it dies again, then you will have to change thermal paste... It only does that because it is overheating... Try speedfan and cpuid hw monitor, it can monitor the temperatures, and give you a good idea if your computer has a heating problem

Ironically I had a cheap dell that lasted for years.
Seems like the high end XPS and the high end Inspirons aren't actually that great.
My Inspiron 9400 has had the video card fixed / replaced 3 times, and DELL still hasn't fixed it right.

I have an xps aswell and i got 2 motherboard replacements and a monitor now my monitor is fucked the last 2 months and they wont replace it

Another very bad thing about this del xps: starting from bios A11, Dell introduced a "thermal control" improvement which actually means "your fan will be almost always running at medium to max speed". This is because nvidia publicly announced that a serious issue with the 8400 chip.
DEL XPS actually is VERY NOISY, and the machine is still extremely hot... I'm very disappointed.
