  • Do you hook the capacitors up in a series or parallel?

  • @Plan3SkIPP3R

    parallel!

  • Ok three things there is no multi meter to my knowledge that would be able to measure the amperage, and you wouldn't measure it with a multi meter the energy in the caps i measured in joules to help you out Ive given you the equation (1/2*volts^2*capacitance)= joules. Two caps are polarized switching the terminal damages them. Three what matters for both coil and rail guns is voltage not capacitance so 28vdc is wimpy.

  • @TheFilmer2009 Mkay, for one; yes there is such a multimeter that will facilitate that kind of amperage, but admittedly is is fairly pricey.

Also i'm not sure where your getting that voltage is the most important thing for a rail/coil gun. Its necessary, but amperage is what controls the amplification of your magnetic flux fields and of course without those, we wouldn't be able to make the projectile go anywhere. the point of 30'ish volts is to make sure it bridges and makes a good connection

  • how do you acctualy make the rail of the rail gun?

  • @JWSstudeos

haha- with great care and a lot of free time ;P

lol anyway, you need to get any old steel/aluminium bars; their dimensions depend on the watts your using. after acquiring them, get a lazer edge or something so you can line the bars up very precisely. i also recommend sanding them.

if ya need more help add me on xbox or facebook! -luke

  • it can't kill u

  • Dude your compasitor bank is a unformated arkreactor, just thought you should know.

    odelhoward@yahoo.com

  • A good idea is, if the common (middle) connection of your switch is connected to (-) battery, connect the other side (not connected to charging circuit) to the cap bank (+). This will short out the cap bank when the circuit is off, eliminating and preventing any hazardous, or even fatal electrical charges.

  • @zombizFTW what are farads of all of the capactiors. and if you are nervous i a lot of expericence in this kind of feild

  • it's not a transformer, but a boost circuit... look it up, they are real cool.

  • Volts won't kill you. They'll just make you piss your pants.

  • My multimeter hates me. ;(

  • i have an old multi meter that measures amps. not sure where my dad got it but it has just about every setting you would ever need on it.

  • your vid was ok but i wanted info about the actual set up of rails etc...
