It's really important to know that this "casting" thing is just a feeling for him, but that does not happen in the swing, feel ain't real like Butch Harmon said. If you would look at this swing in slowmotion you would see that he still has a great lag, and that he is not casting the club. "Feel ain't real" -Butch Harmon
@ZJComparisons I don't really care about that why did you bring it up? Because you want to brag about that? Just a tip when you are gonna write something make sure you can actually provide something important.
@prorobo Casting makes you bottom out behind the ball it removes shaftlean in your swing, it also reduces lag in your swing. What I am trying to say is that it's hard to incorporate a little bit of "casting" in your swing, it's very hard to do it just the right amount, and like I said if you overdo it you might end up with a result that you are not pleased with.
@prorobo I think Jim Hardy mention something like this in Golf Digest or something saying that most weekend golfers suffer BECAUSE they try to emulate professional golfers; taking their advice as gospel. They are worlds apart in conditioning and work ethic. Although appreciated, tips from touring pros should be taken with a grain of salt. Beginners would be better off taking lessons from a teaching professional, not a touring professional.
@prorobo Not necessarily true. A pro golfer spends his entire life training HIMSELF/HERSELF to play the game. (for arguments sake.....He.) He isnt concerned about anyone else. What he feels relative to his physical ability and mental fortitude is unique only to him. A touring professional does not, by default, make a good teacher. Maybe a tip or two here, but generally they are just too self-concerned to effectively teach the average joe.
@f0cusen When you are featured in a golf lesson video that is produced by one of the major golf brands in the world, then maybe your "tips" will carry any sort of weight. Phil is right, you are wrong. Period.
@prorobo That DVD was about his shortgame, secrets about the shortgame not the long game so that's a pretty bad argument. Being good at something does not generally mean you have to be good teaching it to other people. I am entitled to an opinion and I just shared my opinion, I did not like the tip obviously you can't stand the fact that I offered a tip too and said that Phil's tip was a poor tip.
@f0cusen You are merely digging yourself deeper in a ridiculous internet hole. If winning 4 majors doesn't make him a good teacher (besides the fact that he is good as evidenced from his high-selling DVD series among other things), then what makes your advice better than his? Are you PGA certified as an instructor? Or are you a 17 year old know-it-all kid?
@prorobo Just thought his tip about "casting" when you are hitting a fairwaybunker shot was a bad tip, some people have already cast the club and it's hard to incorporate that move and if you overdo it you might hit the ball fat or thin. This is probably his feeling when he is hitting a fairwaybunker shot, that does not mean that it's a awesome tip, and feel ai'nt real. Just because he has won 4 majors does that make him an awesome teacher, sure he knows a lot about golf.
@ZHZdaHZH No is so you don't hit it fat but the his method is not good because people already have problem with casting and with the bottom of the arc. This is maybe what he feels when he is hitting a fairway bunker shot that he is casting the club a little bit so the angle of attack is more shallow it's really not a good tip imo.
notice he says cast "a little bit" thats so you don't hit it thin but you can still pick it clean, for nearly full distance. I'm not saying your method doesn't work but i'd say this is a good tip.
@ZJComparisons Wow If you would know anything about golf you would know that I'm right. Just because I play Counter Strike does that mean that everything I say is nonsense? I'm 17 years old and I have played golf since I was 12-13 and I'm very interested in golfmechanics and I know alot about the game of golf. And for the record I did not make the videos but I was the one playing. So have I lost my credibility just because I play Counter strike, that is preposterous!

@prorobo Okay with that logic you can say that everything he says is right and everything I say is wrong.

@f0cusen No you lost your "credibility" when you attempted to correct a fairway bunker swing tip from a 4 time major championship winner.
