If you ever FIND Grandfather Mountain in Linville NC it's absolutely gorgeous. It has a swing bridge and zoo. Just DON'T follow directions on their flyers at Stuckeys and rest stops. Mapquest it before leaving home.
It was foggy most of the day.

omg...the first time I ever went to GF mtn I think I was eight. Back then they still allowed people to have black bears in cages (there were quite a few as road side attractions). Anyways they had a bear on the other side of the swinging bridge and I wanted to see it soooo bad but I was SOOOOO afraid of the bridge. I had to cross that sucker on my hands and knees to get across. The bridge is much better today than it was 35 years ago =/ lol

Interste 40 to Morganton NC, take 181 to Linville or US 321 to Boone NC, turn at Wendys on Hgwy 105 to Grandfather Mtn, trailhead at 105 and 184
