its an auto. no it doesnt loose momentum. i shift up when taking off, and towards the end of the track or when i feel that i needc to downshift i do. i used to keep it in 2nd gear, but now that i have a good feel of what needs to be done, i can.

Manual or auto trans.? do the shifts break momentum at all?

no, i actually go to 3rd, but i have accidentaly let it go to 4th a couple times
