My Ford Puma's exhaust was blowing, so I got a Maxnex stainless steel cat-back to replace it.

This is what it sounded like before (with Blow in back box)

  • Also pulling away in first...does yours kinda over rev...like the gas pedal is kinda to loose and you jus rev the shit outta it, cus it's hard to balance it out?

  • @C0mm3n yeah actually, I either find I don't give it enough revs or too many, me and my mate have bled the clutch a couple of times now and it hasn't made a difference. (Although when my ABS pump packed up the car did do some rather impressive wheel spins because I was over compensating for the lack of TC lol)

  • @Effin When you pull away in first into second, do you get a grinding sound, it lasts for like a second then you won't hear it again till you stop...pull away.

The gearbox seems ok in general, it's just that grind in first/second.

Also when you stick it in reverse, does it clunk as if you havn't depressed the clutch far enough? (even though the clutch is as far as it will go)

I'm thinkin it might be the clutch that's causing the grind and clunk in reverse.

  • @C0mm3n erm, I don't have the grinding problem in 1st or 2nd, But I do get the clunk into reverse if I'm not stationary and if the revs are anything but idle. Sometimes though if I put it in reverse it doesn't even take until I lift the clutch pedal slightly but the reverse gear issues happen in nearly all Fiestas, Kas and Pumas as they have a similar designed gearbox.

  • Hi mate, mine is doing the same thing. The puma has cost me a fortune already and now this has starting making noises. Can I ask you:

    1) If I didn't replace it, what is likely to happen?

    2) How much did the Maxnex cost you?

    3) Did you fit it yourself, if so, was is easy?

Many thanks in advance, would appreciate your answers mate!

Sorry mate, didn't see your comment, Yeah tell me about the cost, I've spent so much on it already, wish bones, a spring, driveshaft oil seals... I've got to pay £700 odd for my driver's side seal to be replaced and 2 weeks time so thats over a grand in the first 4 months this year.

    1) Your fuel economy goes to hell due to wrong back pressure and (depending on where the blow is) your exhaust could fall off

    2) £300 off ebay

    3) Yeah I done it my self, the only hard bit was trying to undo the nut or remove the studs from the down pipe/flexi section.
