The funniest thing about most of these comments is, everyone is calling it cheesy, yet Blomkamp is getting ready to put out 'District 9', which is already being considered a sci-fi classic.

Fox really dropped the ball by not allowing him to have the funds he requested for Halo.

Really, this test footage for a movie about space marines fighting an evil alien menace doesn't meet or exceed your expectations? The shots are very creative, the imagery is powerful, the effects are great, and the editing is top notch.

This is amazingly well put together given the tiny budget, very good use of CG.  Working with low budgets really shows you how creative a director is.

There is a difference between cheesy in a good campy style vs. cheesy as in embarrassing. This being the embarrassing kind. That being said, District 9 shows how he can take a unique universe and use "cheesy" in a good way that contributes intentional humor. It's a fine line to be sure.

Tell you what, it's going to be the story/cast that draws me in. The last war action movie/series I loved was BoB. Engaging characters give lifeless action sequences breath. Same reason I loved Aliens.

Those aren't costumes, they're full on CGI effects by Blomkamp himself.

Not bad for a short film with no budget. Give him the $145 million he needed for Halo and I guarantee you'd get the best visual effects to date.

This short was done with no budget what-so-ever, just something Blomkamp did for fun. The best part about this short is Blomkamp's eye for outstanding action sequences. His use of the guerilla-style filmmaking is very technical and flawless, you actually feel like you're right there, stuck in the middle of the ruthless enviorement.

Fox seriously fucking sucks for not allowing him to have the full creativity for Halo.

Star Trek, Battlestar Galatica, Stargate Atlantis, Battlefield Earth; This crap all turns out mediocre and bland.
