@nondescriptnyc Zayak was 10 times better than Ivanova, in her jumps, positions, and her spins were superior. How could you say presentation was better with Ivanova? I mean come on!!!??
-
Chin and Zayak both deserved to placed higher than her

@mattimattiusa No Kay Thomson did attempt a triple lutz and triple flip in each program but no other triples. Manley back then was only doing the triple toe and triple salchow and only later got the triple loop and triple lutz.
-
@grafgirl27 I think you have Kay Thomson confused with Elizabeth Manley.
-
@mattimattiusa Are you sure Thomson did not attempt a triple. Usually she attempts both a triple lutz and triple flip (yet nothing else, very strange), so for her not to attempt any would be strange.

@safehaven11 She was awesome at footwork. I've noticed that the skaters back then who were most adept at compulsory figures usually had great footwork sequences - fast and sure and complex.

@metsdudenj I was no fan of Ivanova's long program, but I have to disagree with you that Thomson and Dubrovnic should have placed higher than her. Their programs were tidier, for sure, but in 1984 triples carried a lot of weight with the judges. In spite of her mistakes in the long program, Ivanova did more triples than they did. (Dubrovnic did only one, and Thomson did not even attempt one.)

@serenakicksass I remember that! It was Ray Alperth.

@mattimattiusa yeah Chin should have been 1st which is why only the U.S judge had her 1st and he was forced to write an explanation to justify it, LOL!

@mattimattiusa I never said it should have been first, I said it was my favorite. I enjoyed Witt as well, I never got into Chin (something about her foot positions drove me crazy).
She's better than Witt and Sumners in short programm. Very strange marks.

YAY, it's back, this was my favorite as well! Beautiful opening, the biggest combination jump of the event, and the one of the prettiest step sequences I've ever seen.
