This is the full version of our house projection as it actually looks projected on the house. The neighborhood really seemed to enjoy it. We had kids dancing in our driveway to the music every night. FAQ is below:
Q: How many projectors did you use and what kind?
A: Just one. I used a BENQ M525ST Short throw projector. 2500 lumens. It is currently discontinued. Any projector will work as long as it is bright enough and can cover your whole house from where you plan to mount it.
Q: What software did you use?
A: I used DAZ3D to create the original animations and Serif MoviePlus as my video editor. You can Google them. They are inexpensive, but have all the features you need to do all the cool stuff. There is a lot of other software out there that will work, though.
Q: How did you get everything to line up exactly on the house?
A: The hardest part is figuring out how to mount the projector in a safe and protected place and positioning it exactly the same every time you project. I have a video on my channel showing how I did that.
Beyond that, you will need to create a template to use during video editing so you know where everything is supposed to go. You do that by connecting your computer to the projector and projecting your desktop onto the house. Open any graphics program that allows you to draw an image. While looking at the house, trace an outline of your house. You end up with a wire frame of your house from the exact perspective of the projector. You can use that as a temporary background while you are editing your video so you know where everything goes. It also helps you make video masks in the exact sizes and shapes you need during the editing process.
Q: What did you use to play the video?
A: I used a Blu Ray player and my video was in HD. Standard DVD does not provide a sharp enough image when projected so large. You can use a laptop computer, but I didn't want to leave my computer outside while projecting.
One final comment: I am deluged with people asking me details of how to do this every day, but the truth is that there is no one right way to do it. The beauty of this simple concept (projecting on a building) is that it opens up a whole new world of creativity. You should find what works for you and try new things. I am not the first to do it and I certainly won't be the last, but I hope that I have contributed some new ideas to the art form and helped move it to another level.
Hi! I want to do something similar to your projection. Could you share which template you used on 3ddaz? I can't find the flying witch and bats. I love them! When you go to add music, is that during the video editing on servif? I love the dancing skeletons!!! Where did you get them? Thank you for all your help and and information! You and your family are so talented!

@culinarygirl3 I didn't use any template on DAZ3D. I animated all the characters individually against a solid green background and then used the chroma key effect in MoviePlus to layer them into the video where I wanted them. The witch shadow was just a static piece of artwork I found online that I moved across the moon in MoviePlus using the transform effect. The bats were stock video I found somewhere.

Hey Dude that’s really looks awesome.
I am from South Africa, and I live in an estate, they started Halloween a few years ago and it seems to be growing every year, what type of 3d projection and software would I need to do something similar?
