December, 26th: a Tsunami washes the coast of Sri Lanka, devastating everything standing on its way. A few months afterwards, more than 250.000 people, all of which lost their homes, still live in refugee camps.
The documentary is set in Kalmunai, a village in the East of Sri Lanka and one of the most affected areas, which has disappeared completely into oblivion as a result of the ethnic conflict between the government (of the Sinhalese majority) and the Tamil guerrilla, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
In this context, the documentary follows the works carried out by the Service Civil International (SCI), an NGO based on volunteer work whose aim is to build peace and to mediate in the cultural conflict. This attitude contrasts with that of the main cooperation agencies, which seemingly only care for immediate assistance with no involvement of any sort neither socially nor politically. They ignore that this factor both originates and escalates the neglect the citizens of Kalmunai have fallen into.
