Happy Go Round was a popular children's television program in the 70's.
The original name was "It's A Small World".
But due to copyright issues the name was changed to Happy Go Round.
The show was the first children's educational television program to be given a C classification in Australia.
It featured a very talented cast of youngsters, singing and dancing each week.
The show was recorded at Channel 9 in Brisbane. It was broadcast Nationally around Australia and ran from 1976-1979.
It then had another name change and was called "It's Now", running for a further 12 months.
One of the original cast members was Darlene Steinhardt later to be known as Darlene Szchech now running the very popular Hillsong church in Sydney.
The show's original compere was Jackie MacDonald.
Kathy Davis, Kirri Adams and Simon Gallagher also compered in the later years.
The producer was Paul Sharratt.
A special thanks to Roy Walden from QTQ 9.

  • Good on you, Terry. "Very talented" was spot on... the kids on Pugwall couldn't hope to match what you've posted here. I have to admit I only watched the show for Leigh Muirhead... sorry! Speaking of which - no copy of Leigh doing "One Tin Soldier"? Probably just as well...

  • I can understand you only watching the show for Leigh....She was very talented ! I don't have her singing "One Tin Soldier", You have a very good memory !

    Cheers......Terry

  • What is Pugwall?

  • Have you got any more footage of Kathy? She's my mum.

  • Hi Emile....I am sending your Mum a DVD of more footage I have. I have been in contact with her and as soon as I get another copy I will send it to her.

    Cheers....Terry

  • wow one of those kids is Darlene Zschech? Could you tell me which one?

  • Darlene is the one with the blonde hair.

You can't miss her as she still looks much the same now.

  • @terrystewart3 Hi Terry, Wondering if you could send me also some footage of the show. I'm Darl's little sis and we don't have any footage of her from the show. My kids would love to see their aunty on the show. I remember going to the studio a couple of times to watch the filming of the show. Great memories. You guys were were very cool!

It's been nice to watch the ones you've put up. Thanks for sharing! Deb.

  • Hill$ongs Darlene Zchech is featured here. She is still a star even if its heading up the HIll$ong parade. Nothings changed.

  • From the Wikipedia entry - "Pugwall is an Australian children's television series. It revolves around the title character Peter Unwin George Wall, PUGWALL, and his friends as they form a band called the Orange Organics." What I remember most about the show is that, although most of the kids on it could hold a note, they did not appear to have any exceptional talent, nor was there much if any singing training in evidence. As I said, the Happy Go Round team were far more talented.

  • classic

  • I used to watch this on QTQ9 as a kid. Just loved Kathy Davis, she was the best weather presenter on National Nine News taking over from Melody Illife - the longtime face of Chandlers in Brisbane.

  • Would you believe that your post on youtube was the second time in my life I've seen my mum on tv? We have huge betamax/other tapes at home which we can't play, and apparently the tv station did a good job at nuking the rest of the archives. So this is really a treat for me.
