A musical short, with two Big Block 454 pieces especially composed for the film - with Wasp synths, glissando guitar and whistling, and someone reciting the Fibonacci Series... Filmed by Colin Robinson on the Welsh Highland Railway between Caernarfon and Rhyd-Ddu in September 2006, and featuring two South African Beyer-Garratt articulated steam locos - possibly the biggest narrow gauge locos in Britain.

  • The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway is a miniature railway; the locos and rolling stock are small-scale replicas. The gauge is 1ft 3in.

The Welsh Highland Railway is a narrow-gauge line but the locos are quite sizable (especially the South African Garratts). The gauge is 2ft.

  • ... or the ability to spell the word garratt correctly !

  • @rickwhiterickwhite

    Whoops !

I was concentrating on getting the spelling of Rhyd-Ddu correct; I thought I knew how to spell Garratt.

  • Nice video, shame about the lack of steam sounds!

    1. I actually made it as a music video.

    2. The Garratts don't have much of an exhaust bark at all - possibly due to them being oil-fired or the length of their steam pipes? Bit of steam hissing at the beginning of the video, but nothing but annoying creaking from the carriages during the journey. No traditional steam loco sounds at all.
