beware isikoff attempting to re-establish progressive credentials after he very prominently figured in a number of false stories that contributed to the clinton impeachment -- he's nasty and a liar... but, he's reporting correctly about AG firings, but this stuff is old news...

There is no statute that says this, just the general principle that the judicial and executive branches should be independent. DOJ is part of the executive, although it has some staff that carries over between administrations.

You forgot to add that they can NOT be fired for political reasons, whether they serve at the pleasure of the president or not. You cannot fire U.S. Attorneys for investigating their own party in wrong doings. Which is what they did. That is very dangerious. That would leave every party in power with immunity.
