My church is this very chapel of democracy

This is from a movie called the Contender. I almost fell out of my chair when she made this speech. It gave me hope. Maybe some day we will have a president who openly states that he or she does not believe in gods, ghosts, or demons. I hope to live to see that glorious day.

This is exactly what I want a Democratic leader in America to stand up for. That was what the Democratic Party was about 20 years ago. It's such a shame .. so much compromise. Obama is my vote for President. McCain will follow the leaders of the Bush Administration, to the exact letter.
The Democrats will lose again. The economic whirlwind was caused by the War on Terror. I don't even live in America. left 2 years ago. And it's all over Western Europe now. You can't get away for it.

I agree with her except on the line about guns.

i would vote for her

Except for the line about taking every gun out of every home. This should be a speech that every Liberal Democrat likes.

@meshlife88 But that's not the only thing separation of church and state does, and some of our founding fathers realized that. Some of them, like Thomas Jefferson, realized that it was even more important to protect US the people from religious tyranny by protecting government from religious fanaticism. That's pretty much what this character was saying here. And the word "god" was not in our constitution. Just sayin...

I like this movie but the thing about religion is backwards. This country was founded on the idea that we could protect religion based on the concept of individual liberty and free will, granted by God. These are not my words, these are the words of our founding documents.

I wish that liberal politicians had this kind of balls in real life.

@Redwoodman12 Hitler's faith is something we may never know. Many times, he claimed to be doing God's holy work. To this day, he has also not been excommunicated from the Roman Catholic church.
That being said, were any of those people motivated by their lack of religion? If not, then the same thinking can be applied to the countless more religious tyrants, murderers, and felons that history can give us.
Government and religion do not mix well, as both history and current events show.

@ih8u2be Thank you I think I remember seeing it in the previews.
What film is this? Seems like a liberal dream for the United States, but we can all dream in a democracy. Term limits are a good idea no matter who is in power. The President has only two terms that should be good enough for everyone else.
