On the day so-called elections took place in Honduras (Nov. 29, 2009) protesters assembled in front of the Honduran Consulate in Chicago to decry the fraud of this electoral process set up after the military coup against the legally elected President of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya. This Nov. 29 "election" is not being recognized as legitimate by the United Nations and the Organization of American States (OAS), but is by the United States. Victoria Cervantes and Alexy Lanza (of La Voz de los de abajo) provide some useful background to this protest, echoed in many cities throughout the world. They observe that US foreign policy of assisting Central American right-wing forces in oppressing the democratic aspirations of the masses has not changed under the Obama administration. 8 minutes.
