The Cape Parrot (Poicephalus robustus) is the most endangered bird in South Africa, and the most endangered parrot in Africa. There are less than 1,000 remaining in the wild, restricted to small Afromontane forest patches along the south coast of Souh Africa. We are working everyday to save this iconic parrot species from extinction. We are currently battling an outbreak of Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease that is moving through the wild population.

Please join us in the Cape Parrot Project group on Facebook and help save this African parrot in peril...

“The light was from heaven, the angels asked us to do everything we can to protect these forests from further destruction.”

I shall be auctioning off some wonderful bird photos from winners bird photos, thereby raising some much needed funds for the Cape Parrot Project, kindly donated, printed and framed by Nightjar Travel. Keep up to date with the 2013 Nightjar Travel SA Birds Photographic Competition on Facebook at the Stanford Birding Page.

I have an Amazon parrot at home. This bird looks a lot like an Amazon, but its wings are black instead of green.

I have never heard of the Cape parrot before. But it gives us an idea about wildlife endemic to montane regions of the African continent. But parrots throughout the world are being threatened with invasive diseases, invasive animals, and habitat loss.

It isn't sky! It's a mountain with trees. This is real footage and they are REALLY endangered. As few as 1000 left in the wild. Support the efforts to create a vaccine and recreate habitat lost!!

How did the Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease spread? Was it from captive bred parrots?
