Notes:

The battery's were running low, so I had to change them (hence you will see a photo replacement also from the same day and location right after 46th St for a few seconds).

56th St is still under reconstruction.

The recording for 60th St was rolled way back in place of when 56th St's announcement would play.

Notes about the original video:

I had to splice the video from 40th to 46th as it turned out dark.

Past 63rd, I was originally aiming for the railfan seat earlier. When the person got up, I jumped too fast for the seat not realizing that I'd just had ruined a straight forward video out the storm door(the quality gets alittle off, just feels different when you're seated). Plus at 69th St my battery's died mid way into the station(Can't remember if I replaced them with cheap battery's or replaced them with used battery's)

Enjoy.

  • when was this video taken?

  • It was taken before Sept. 2006 for sure, but I don't remember the exact date, sorry.

  • thanks for posting this. are they going to tear down this EL line?

  • They are replacing the structure with a new concrete structure and T pillers in the street. They are also renovating the stations with brand new ones. At this time, 46th St and Millbourne are closed and to be rebuilt. 52nd is half way done and is open during construction! 56th and 60th St are both open and rebuilt already.

  • the el has gotten so dirty it is ridiculous the regional rail lines aren't far behind either if septa keeps letting them go the way they are.

  • Not sure if you mean the old EL or the new one, but the new one didn't seem so bad when I was there on Sunday... Of course though the old one will be less maintained since it's going to be gone soon anyway's.

  • i like the old layout better it was quieter and smoother than it is now.

  • There was construction on the tracks.

  • lol i dont got that sexy doorchime that we nyc subway riders have?? wow but cool KINDA

  • The condition of west Philly's El, was in satisfactory condtion, I just found this out, and there initial intent was to reconstruct all the main supports an widen the stance of the supports, or make them centrally located underneath, it would have costed way-way more. Cheaper to replace it.

  • I think the new structure look horrible, no character, they most likely wanted to just replace the trackbed, I do not know what the structures overall condition was, it had a concrete track bed above, as it did from 1903, our elevated was way newer than New York, Boston and Chicago's, there structures were built differently, this structure sat right in the middle of Market street, Northeast was easier to restore, the structural supports went to the curb, it of course was built way later.

  • Looking at it, before 2007.

  • just wondering because the mfl has changed alot

  • i cant wait for the whole reconstruction to be complete so far 46th 56th 60th are complete while millbourne is still under reconstruction and 52nd is half way done. nice vid by the way
