The world wanted to help but the junta refused to open the door. Now it is saying that the money is not enough and wants billions for reconstructions. Cyclone victims were removed from camps and send back to the affected area as they can be self-sufficient. The junta says they can eat frogs and fish from the flooded field. What kind of government is this? Were the aid be diverted and the money pocketed. There were no assurance from the junta. The junta must not forget of KARMA!

And while yes I agree that the money the government sends in foreign aid could be used for helping local people, in my opinion the percentage of money going into foreign aid, is probably not a lot compared to the amount of money that is wasted in government through excesses, corruption, "pig" projects, incompetence. Of course I do not have the statistics to back that up.

I honestly think that people can help the people here in north America as well in other parts of the world. Send 20 bucks to the local food shelter and send 20 bucks to an international aid group. Something to that effect.

I don't know how bad things are in America, and yes unemployment and homelessness is a problem, here in Canada too. But honestly, the poor in North America, have access to resources. Obviously not a lot, but there is a system in place, at least here in Canada to help people in the poverty line. And while yes it is sad, and they should be helped, the poverty in the other regions of the world, like in Burma, is just on a scale inconceivable to people in industrialized nations.

I didn't say we should give money to lazy people or drug addicts...
I said we have almost 1 million homeless people in America, we hve over 7 million unemployed, we have uninsured and under educated....
We have enough to do here at home... in our own country with our tax dollars.
I would say the federal government should not be allowed to spend one dime of our tax dollars on the welfare of other countries.
If you want to help them then write a check but don't suck the country dry.

Let's be realistic, would you give money to a drug addict, or someone lazy.. if so you have very little reasoning. Because a drug addict would use that money to buy more drugs, and a lazy person who is capable of working will just be tempted to beg all his life. The Bible also quotes to not help 'the lazy' it serves them good, so they'll learn to work. And I don't know where I mentioned once they should be ignored, I just stated that right now Myanmar is in more need than the ones living in U.S.
Mr. Uttera,
I support you 100% and thank you for you help in Burma. You are an inspiration and I hope this message reaches many.

I can't believe all this nonsense about whether he's reading or not, whether he's fluent in English or not. Just imagine what life is like for him suddenly being yanked out of his monkish ways and shoved in front of a camera to appeal to the world for help for his people.
