As part of her encore, Sharon Jones tells her story about how record companies said she was too fat, too short and too black. The crowd snaps right to on the call-and-response, digging her message to all persons to accept themselves and believe in themselves. Opening song: "Answer Me, Sweet Jesus."
At the 9:30 Club, Washington, D.C., 5/9/09.
So I was sitting here eating my lunch and as soon as the horns and her voice came in I yelled "WOOOOOO" involuntarily, like i was possesed and started shaking in my seat. If this crappy live recording can do that to me I CANT IMAGINE the kind of energy in the room when this was recorded. pure soul.

This woman is a powerhouse that moves non-stop during her performances. I've seen 'petite women' with no weight on their frame not be able to work as hard as she does - in heels. Her music is what matters - and it is fantastic. I'm not buying her body I'm buying her sound. When we get back to that in the music industry, we might actually start getting real quality music back in the ears of the masses and less auto-tuned bubblegum tv dinner mash.

Well... she is too fat for her little frame. She's a short petite woman. She really should take off those extra pounds. It indeed subtracts from her attractiveness. Be all you can be sista! Get fit.
