Great song! Jo Stafford was backed by the Norman Luboff Choir in this version of Shrimp Boats. Recorded in 1951. Enjoy!

  • I remember this song from when I was a kid..my mom had the album....most people of today have never even heard of her....and a lot of other people of that era...you can ask young people today about Billie Holiday...they will say they never heard of HIM....sad

About 15% of the folks who subscribe to my channel are 24 or under. I'm encouraged by that, to think folks of any age will find something to like in this older music if they take the time to listen to it. Good music is truly timeless.

  • Joe Stafford died on July 16, 2008 and I didn't hear it reported anywhere. That's a shame.

Look online for the 78-L group. Lots of folks there are way into the vintage music culture, primarily 78 rpm records. They are a lot more knowledgeable than I am.

  • I love this song! Thanks so much for posting this delightful "blast from the past" for us to enjoy! The late great Jo Stafford is one of my all time favorite female vocalists. You've made my day & my weekend. I hope you & yours have a VERY happy holiday season! :)

  • I love this song. It would always be played on the radio cc 1952 just before Christmas. I was just a small boy but I remember it well. Stuck in my mind all this time.

    Thanks for the recording

  • Thanks for bringing back memories of a time when I was much younger and times were much more innocent. I was seven and I still remember this.

  • @beamenders69 Me too!

  • I love Jo,but this is a truly awful recording. Sorry.

  • this and many others from the fifties were records my mother had that my sister and i enjoyed listening to. frankie laine, jim reeves, patti page, lawrence welk, and more. thank you for posting these here. these take me back to my childhood in the 50s and 60s.

  • The early fifties were the start of music as we know it with top twenties , and other pop charts . Jo was one of the early artists along with Eddie Fisher Guy Mitchell ,Frankie Laine ,and lots of other artists. These were the best days of our lives for those of us old enough to remember , thank you you tube for giving us all these great memories .

  • I also remember this song being played on 78s. We did not have much but listened to this song and Patti Page's Tennessee Waltz for hours back in the mid-50s
