In his spoken introduction, Joshua Jacobson, distinguished musicologist and director of the Zamir Chorale, tells the sad story Sholem Seconda's attempt to commercialize his adaptation of a traditional Yiddish melody. Jacobson's delightful arrangement includes a tip of the hat to the Andrews Sisters, whose huge hit redeemed Tin Pan Alley, if not Seconda's exchequer. Ted Casher plays inspired klezmer clarinet, Jimmy Mazzy, banjo, and Eli Newberger, tuba. From a joint concert at Temple Shir Tikva, Wayland, MA, on May 2, 2010.
