Because he as an imagination not like some,do you know how many Scot's live in Lancashire ?,at one time nearly every pub you went in to it was a Scot that served you,it's thinking like your's and I use that word very loosely in your case which make's the world such a sorry state.

  • What a tosser. Why can't he spout his nonsense in Lancashire, why does he think that the Far North is somehow mystical and magical ?

  • of the community - frankly, without them, we'd be much the poorer! The old post office might just have gone to ruin, but Muz arrived, and I remember thinking it was so cool when he painted it purple!

What Strathy doesn't suffer from much, but many Highland beauty spots do, is where so many houses are bought as holiday homes - all well and good for bringing some money into a community, but I'm sure some of the soul of the place is lost; I think it's rather that that should be lamented.

  • I'm from Strathy Point, just up the road from Muz (and I don't say this to set myself up as a 'true' local, but my mother's family has been here since the clearances forced them here) - I just want to say, I thoroughly approve of people coming here to live, wherever they've come from. Many people here have strong ties to the place, and families are richly intertwined (if they call it Mackay Country, it's for a reason!), but those who have been here even just a few years should be no less part..

  • @supermagnum15 " If I wasn't so biased [I'd] realise that we are all one nation'

Sorry, that is wrong I believe. The UK is not a nation. It is a state of nations. We are not all one nation. Anyway what has that got to do with anything? Are you suggesting that if rural Scotland was being populated with incomers from Italy or Rwanda then they would not be welcome? But where it is a group of people from the UK then it is perfectly fine? What are you saying? Please elaborate.

  • @supermagnum15 ...who have, on average, more financial might than local people, and so are able to buy property with ease. Rural Scotland has witnessed an ethnic cleansing achieved through economic means.

It is wrong. I want to see diversity throughout the country - urban and rural. Not the (almost complete) supplantation of the people whose ancestors named the landscape by one particular economically powerful and civically aggressive incoming population (whatever nationality they happen to be)

  • @supermagnum15 that is from England - usually the south of England. It is frightening. I want to see a diverse, open, welcoming society in Scotland. I believe in the recent advertising campaign of the Scottish government - One Scotland. Many Cultures. But that is the problem. In many areas in rural Scotland there is only English people. This is a fact. There is no diversity whatsoever in that set of affairs. Whole counties are full of village after village of so called ' white settlers'...

  • @supermagnum15 My comment came across as narrow minded. I wish to convince you I am not. My issue is this: I have seen and my friends have lived through a dramatic change in many areas of rural Scotland. Some villages in Perthshire, which I know well, have barely anybody living in them who can claim their parents lived in the village, or indeed in Perthshire, indeed even in Scotland. I know of villages in Perthshire where almost every single child in the school speaks English with an accent...

  • @fionndan its a shame that we the ENGLISH have to assist in the reclamation of YOUR country. If you weren't so biased you would realise that we are all one nation. The North of Scotland is not excluded from this even though the locals think they are.

  • Very narrow minded you mean there's no scots live outside your country ? it's asswipe thinking like this which make's the world such a sorry state of affair's it is bet your a Sun reader.
