*This is how to fix the screen flicker issue when on desktop*

Enable overdrive

create a profile in CCC and save it, but do NOT activate

c:\users\[user name]\appdata\local\ati\ace\profiles [must have show hidden files on]

open the .xml with the same name as the profile created

make the following changes

Feature name="CoreClockTarget_0"
Property name="Want_0" value="40000" [previous should be "15700"]

Feature name="MemoryClockTarget_0"
Property name="Want_0" value="90000" [previous should be "30000"]

Save and close file

now by going in CCC and activating the profile the idle speeds should be 400 and 900 instead of 157 and 300

this will marginally increase idle temps

  • Thanks man i have been for about two weeks now hunting for a fix for this problem and today my friend sent me this link ,And wow its fixed the problem that was giving me so much pain ..I dont think i have much hair on my head left ... THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS ....

  • @Mastering3d No problem man!! I'm glad it's helping people. :D

  • Have you tested lower idle speeds to see where the problem starts and clears to get lower temperatures at idle?

Also why hasn't ATI fixed this in future drivers. Even in 11.3 just released this problem still exists.

What was the forum you found this fix on. I'm curious to read what they said about it to this day.

  • @vohdoun I haven't tested it at all, I read about it, tried it, it worked, and I don't have time to test it. I just updated too and WOW I can't believe there's these problems... I also have a NEW problem now where when i'm full screen in a video game and hit windows, It takes like 10-20 seconds to show my desktop and same when I go back into the game

  • @scottjohnsonltd The Catalyst team seem to do such a great job at creating bugs than fixing them it seems. :/

  • @vohdoun I agree. I can't wait until they get there act together are release something amazing!

  • @scottjohnsonltd or even better instead of releasing separate parts just combine all the best computer companies to make good pc's

  • @Brucekneehigh I had the same issue, no options. So I followed your instructions and I do believe it worked! I have been trying to fix this dumb thing for MONTHS!

  • 2012 and I'm still having this issue :( Unfortunately CCC is very different now with version 12 and this video no longer applies

  • Thanks champ. It worked for me. My situation a little different. Catalyst control center version 12.1 (2011.1205.2215.39827) for Radeon HD 6570 gives no options tab or profile setup.Went through your steps via User, Appdata, Local, ATI, ACE,right click profile and edit.Changed "CoreClockTarget_0" from 10000 to 20000 and "MemoryClockTarget_0" from 15000 to 66700. Saved and then rebooted the PC. Checked CCC panel and idle CPU clock now 200Mhz instead of 100Mhz.Memory clock now 667Mhz not 150Mhz.:)

  • I have a two screens and one of them always had this issue. I followed your instructions and everything is fixed. Thank you so much. I already recommend your video to other people with same screen flickering problem. Thanks again

  • bro when i open the xml it dose not say the coding, Is there anyway to get it? or its just me? please reply, liked and subed

  • I HAVE BEEN LOOKIN FOR THIS FOR 4 MONTHS....bump this x1000 tyvm i was having trouble with flickering with dual monitors and this fixed it=] i hope
