Superstar Sheila in one of her typical 'fame' Tv live performances.
She's singing atop the soundtrack, piling up voices, looking good and moving perfectly 'by the millimetre'...
LE TUBE, the commercial HIT impossible to wear off. Can be played any number of times.
Pulling out new dance gimmicks, without a respite, and wearing her usual blue pellets 'Tv signature' combinaison... another AAAAA appearance, win-over-the-nation again in the proverbial 3 minutes...
Sheila !
Spotless, 'all corners shining', dancing the tune, a driving pop song in plain SHEILA vocals...
Le soleil !!
Deploying her 'I-fully-fulfill-the-ether' singing mode again : central and complete, remaining mostly in the middle keys but reaching every cubic inches in the room, all the time, naturally loud and sweet as ever...
Sunshine for the masses was a raving fashion then, so we find the according Sheila hit here : another sales' RAVAGE of course...
(This was in the middle of her best & famous 'classic' era, with records sales 'classic' as well... An era of massive popular commerce, espec. those cheap "45 tours" that she indeed contributed to settle here. It took later her international S.B.Devotion disco epic to topple it, slightly.)
Served with the natural smile we know well of, beautiful and beautifully moving in fashion, permanently dancing every verse, pop-style, all among love tunes, and an ode to the sun...
Ah, and those "woh oh oh oh..."
1974 !
The original TV broadcast was in colour, but where is the tape ???
Put POWER into your sound gear for this one, bring it LOUD to neighbours' 'connaissance'... and get this popular summer clarion into the street really ! , 'latin wise', hanging from the windows as it certainly was then.
The single your younger sister would be loving so much, so much, yet the one you'd find yourself chanting along, circumstances commanding by your last romance... your parents would enjoy it at times naturally, in a warm mood, and it was a sure rally in familial party times too...
While the kitchen radio kept it 'circulating' anyway, all summer long.
That's Sheila, that's "Tu es le soleil"...
"Inusable à l'usage". Impossible to wear off whatever the usage... Can be played any number of times.
There was no video clips for "visuals" then, just one overworked appearance in few main variety Tv-shows, live (lip-singing, or singing atop the soundtrack like here, or in full live with house orchestra playing, but 'live' broadcasts anyway), watched by about everyone in the country.
Dance moves, attitudes and face expressions carefully set for the best TV impressions for each songs.
Some extra re-do's at times afterwards, for big cash 'landsliders' like Sheila or Cloclo then (Claude François, try his "Je vais à Rio" for likewise initiation), records on radio runs (by sound), color articles (by picture), covers everywhere, posters...
It all followed.
Everything was put on these one-shot Tv performances, under much pressure, and intense preparation work (too strictly so probably), in well chosen mainstream occasions.
Sheila was a crack for that.
Acting every verse and moving out special dance gimmicks, upon Bernard Estardy's unique sound packages, all aimed at the little square screen...
The present one is typical.
Sheila's getting some of the motherhood shapes in here... that's normal... yet the singing is plain, large...
While it's hard to define a period that would be more classic or more successful for her - from the 1963 "L'école est finie" explosion right until at least the 'disco-queen' then CHIC epic..., plus all her "classy 80's" -, this mid-70's "Tu es le soleil" and its 'séquence Télé' represents nonetheless what I consider 'the true Sheila', singing some wide sounding, loud and over-produced good 'Tubes' in her superstar outfit.
Shaky tunes with full dancing potential, and collective sing-along verses too : true mass-products, fashioned with care.
Performed through hard preparation work, and it shows.
Some French 'glitter', but utterly popular : classless. A kind of pre-disco, but with romantism... womanly so... A bit of easy melancholy upon the beat, French words and a smile.
Tuuuuu es le soleil ! (Youuuu are the sunshine!),
L'astre de mes nuits (Star of my nights)
La providence (The Providence)
Qui fait partie de ma vie (That is part of my life)
Lets sing and shake at this summer anthem !!
like :
Etrangère à l'amour (Foreign to love)
Je vivais chaque jour (I was living everyday)
Espéraaaaant déjà (Already hopiiiiing)
and
Wohhh oh oh oh
Qu'il pleuve, qu'il vente, qu'il neige (Raining, blowing or snowing...)
woh oh oh oh
Ta présence me protège (Your presence is protecting)
et cetera.
Ain't it all SINGABLE ???
non ?
Wo ho ho ho !!!
So, with such a number, if you don't understand what SHEILA ! means and what she carries along...
You landed the wrong planet !
lyrics please. merci.

The song (a creation not a cover) is based on three musical themes, simply 'turning' in succession.
All three are as appealing (teasing) as a chorus, there is no 'verse' really. Quite rare as a structure for a song.
I love it.

Musical memories are wide... and focused, and so lively...
What good it is to be able to hear it, exactly as it was, and to sing it all from oneself...
When song is good memories are too.
And as for images...
