Have you got any friends who are hearing impaired? Well our mascot Boots has many, and he has been learning sign language recently to help communicate with them.
Some of Boots pals are amongst 26,000 people in St Helens with some form of deafness, and recently Super Leagues favourite mascot has been attending The Deafness Resource Centre on Dentons Green Lane to brush up on his signing skills.
St Helens and District Society for Deaf People was established in St Helens in 1928. The organisation set up the Deafness Resource Centre to meet the growing needs of Deaf people in St Helens.
Saints recently produced a video for fans to give signing a go themselves. The video was produced with the support of The European Social Fund (ESF) and Merseyside Disability Federations. ESF was set up to improve employment opportunities in the European Union and so help raise standards of living. It aims to help people fulfil their potential by giving them better skills and better job prospects.
MDF provides support for voluntary and community groups in Merseyside and the surrounding areas that are of and for disabled people.
