I followed Carl (leading) and Brian down the Blue Mountain VEGG #2 Race trail on practice day using a GoPro HD camera and chest mount in the 1280x960 mode. This time I used the rubber orange thing on the camera mount and it almost completely got rid of the clicking noise the previous video suffered from. I believe it also helped to get rid of the high-frequency video oscillations too.
Unfortunately I did not remember to REALLY tighten down the chest mount straps so the video came out really shaky again. To fix this I decided to try out the vid.stab plugin of transcode, an open source Linux utility (http://public.hronopik.de/vid.stab/ )
The stabilization works really well which you can see in a comparison video I'll throw up later (a side effect is the black bars you keep seeing in this video).. but the overall output quality of the transcode setup left something to be desired. I'm sure it can be improved with more tinkering, but I'll save that for another day... I have spent too much time as-is just trying to get the x264 video encoder working with transcode.

  • Sick video! So, can anyone buy a pass and ride this trail? And you mentioned that they closed these trails for a waterpark?

Also, did you ever try the mtn. biking trails at Bear Creek in Macungie? My sister lives really close, and I was curious to know if I should bring my Kona next time we're in PA

  • @7etterpress When they were open anybody could ride there after buying a pass. They are not open currently however.

On October 1st/2nd, a GES DH race will take place there so that could give you an opportunity to ride/race there. I haven't tried out Bear Creek or Macungie yet or heard of them actually so I don't know about those.

  • Did you have helmet cam?

  • @gabbiedoglover11 I used a gopro hd camera with the gopro chest mount to make this video.

  • looks like some srsyl fun dh!!

  • @iNoScOpEdOBL

It was great! I was looking forwards to the races this year there but they shut down so they could build a water park. :( Here's hoping they open back up in 2012
