This mini-lecture looks at the attacks on Libya and the possible key role played by Libya's oil reserves, as well as the ongoing difficulties at the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan. It notes George Monbiot's fear that instead of nuclear power more coal fired plants will be constructed with much worse environmental consequences than might occur as a consequence of a nuclear power plant meltdown. The lecturealso makes mention of the "zero waste" household in California, and Yann Arthus-Bertrand's project www.6billionothers.org, as well as the unfolding disaster for penguins and other sea birds as a consequence of the grounding of a Greek ship on one of the islands of Tristan da Cunha in the remote South Atlantic.
