depends! if that is for profit sake then he should not make variations or changes or modifications,it should be as exact as in the picture(i mean for the shape and size)but for art sake he could change the color complexion of it.anyway every portrait artist can do that changes,what is most important is that there should be no changes in size and shape!the drawing,sketch i mean!you may cahnge her complexion but not her nose,eyes lips.anyway! great

The artist paints what he sees, not what you see. He has the choice of changing things to what he sees better fit. It would be boring if the portrait he painted was a photo copy of the picture. It the style, colors, and way of drawing that separates a picture from a painting.

If no one saw the original photo and only saw the painting they wouldn't be complaining. An artist paints a representation of a person. He doesn't reproduce a photograph, otherwise what's the point of painting. Anyone who knows that girl would recognize her as the one in the painting.
