  • that was great, was that a pinning ceremony

  • hi. i don't know what a pinning ceremony is i'm afraid! it was the annual "review" for the nurses of the ward in which my girlfriend was based at the local hospital, broomfield / st andrews. great team, subsequently split up and messed around by inept managers and accountants, but that is typical of the UK's health service - those on the floor are great, those in charge are hopeless. the girls are spread all over now which is a real shame. that night was a lot of fun though. cheers!

  • @phoenixrisingftm A) Never considered med school. If someone did get straight As they would most likely get a full scholarship to nursing school. Of course you can not name any two year diploma mill that turns away 3.6 GPA students. As far as the NCLEX goes anyone who takes thousands of practice test questions could pass that exam without ever going to nursing school.

  • @magickunderpants In the end, 2 or 4 year program, we all pass the same NCLEX... "If someone can achieve a solid 4.0 they probably have higher goals in life than being an RN. " I think that says it all. Someone with an RN degree who thinks that being an RN is a second choice to med school either A) is incredibly bitter that they couldn't get into med school and "settled" for an RN degree or B) has no understanding that people *choose* nursing because of its unique skill set.

  • @phoenixrisingftm Ironically these two year nurse diploma schools have a higher tuition rate than the state schools that are nationally ranked. A lot of these two year programs are private for profit i.e. trade on the NYSE and are "nationally accredited" not a regionally accredited schools. Which means a lot of employers will not hire you i.e. federal the Nurse Corps and VA. Also, Magnet Status hospitals will not hire these grads as well. Also, crdits will not transfer to an RN-BSN program.

  • @phoenixrisingftm Name these two year "programs" that do not allow a 3.6 in. The Ohio State University is a top 25 nursing school and their avg. is a 3.6 for MSN the avg is a 3.3. This means half of their students did below a 3.6 to get into their undergrad and below a 3.3 to get into their MSN. If someone can achieve a solid 4.0 they probably have higher goals in life than being an RN.

  • @magickunderpants Just because you, personally, haven't experienced something doesn't make it false. I know of several 2 year programs that *barely* let in people with a 3.6 GPA. Perhaps this is an issue having more to do with the amount of money a particular state has invested in education... What I'm most curious about, however, is your statement that "If someone had a 4.0 they would go to med school." Meaning what, exactly?

  • @phoenixrisingftm Straight As? I doubt that. Every RN I have met that went to a diploma program had below a 3.0 and was rejected from a BSN program or did not apply because they knew they would not get in. The CRNA program at my University has an avg. 3.5 GPA and even accepted 3.0 GPA applicants. My University's CRNA program is ranked 11th out of 109 in the country. If someone had a 4.0 they would go to med school. I know MDs who had below a 3.5 in their undergrad studies as well.

  • @magickunderpants Ummmm. There are just as many ADN programs that are only taking students with straight A's.

  • @BrutalRealist I completely agree, nursing has some of the most abusive psycotic people I have ever met. Our Nursing Dept. Head admitted to being a control freak and she was removed after 2 years of litigation brought on by a student who could no longer put up with the abuse. I'm a male nursing student and i'm weeks from graduation. Once i'm done and have my degree, they can kiss my butt.

  • @RudyMvp Haha, that's awesome Rudy. You definitely have to have a very strong backbone to endure the abuse that comes with nursing. Are you a man, by chance?
