Do headlight restoration kits work?
And are they worth the time and money?
In this video I demo and review Meguiar's Headlight Restoration Kit that sells for about 20 bucks. It is a one step kit that claims to restore clarity to cloudy oxidized yellowed and lightly scratched headlights.
It comes with a microfiber shammy and a buffing wheel for a power drill.
Opinion: It does what it says, but it won't make your headlight look brand new.
One issue with the plastic headlight assemblies is that often half of the problem lies on the inside of the headlight where you can't get at it.
It also begins to degrade again over a few months and requires another application.
An alternative would be to buy and install a new headlight assembly. Depending on your car's make model and year, this can be done for anywhere from $20 to over $100 per side. I recommend going to rockauto.com as a good starting place.
@Manwithjeep i dunno - i was able to do 3 cars and i still have plenty left. For 20 bucks, this consumer grade polisher works pretty well. The results don't seem to last for more than 3 to 6 months before the plastic lenses get foggy again - i'm going to do mine again and see if a second application has any effect.

@meguiarsasia Great product though I can't help but think about how much of that stuff ends up being absorbed by the applicator itself. Good for the product maker in that it uses up the bottle faster. I threw away my applicator, grabbed a small soft doubled up cloth and used good old fashion elbow grease. This allows more polishing pressure per square inch and better control around the edges of the lens. Better results/less wastage!!!

thanks for the review.....for severe problems we also have a stronger consumer one AND a pro one as well with very aggressive grits. To your point, if the issue is on the inside of the light....not a bunch someone can do to fix that. Thanks again!
