  • Do you have any problems with the plaster bandages breaking or being fragile? How thick is it? Looks pretty thin at 8:08. Can you expect to make 10+ casts from a mother mold like this, or is it more temporary?

  • @inspire79 If made properly a bandage shell mothermold like theis can last for many castings and many years. I have a head mold that I still use that I made with Gel-10 and Plaster Bandages over 7 years ago. Keep in mind that these are not hobby grade plaster bandages but are the high strength ones we sell on our webstore. There is a huge strength difference between the two.

  • Two questions mate: First off, did you put Vaseline on the silicone before applying the plaster? And second, do you know of any way of further strengthening the plaster so that it lasts longer?

Cheers, great tutorial by the way :)

  • @out6of6my6mind No vaseline is needed to release the silicone. The only part that needs to be released is the exposed seam of plaster bandage material. A properly made plaster bandage shell will last many years if made right. If you want additional strength you can let the bandages dry for a few days and brush some EZ Flo 120 resin over them.

  • can gel-10,or any other types of silicone be mixed and poured straight reg. alginate cast-i used to cast a hand in an empty paper milk carton, filled w/ standard alginate, have the person remove their hand, and up-end to get rid of water, and pour in a poly urathane elastomer, and get a seamless hand-any advice?

  • @tuuexx If you are asking if you can pour polyurethane rubber into alginate the answer is no. Urethanes are VERY moisture sensitive so you would have major bubble issues unless you dried the inside of the mold.

  • @brickintheyard Thanks :)

  • @bradmacaboy Thickened (using tinthix) 7120 silicone is great for restoration projects. Cast them up in #1 pottery plaster or casting plaster. Stay away from the plaster at hardware stores it is LOW quality.

  • @bradmacaboy Not sure what you are asking.

  • I don"t think so. We carry the high grade here in our shop and they are reasonably priced.
