David Bowie's bits from the film from 1986

Here he's created a character based on false, plastic ideals. He was inspired by a man who worked with him in an ad agency in the 60's, who was English but would put on a false American accent. So Bowie is doing it on purpose to show how false his adman is. Unfortunately most people who watch it think he's just putting on a stupid American accent and he's not good at it. They don't get what he was trying to do with the character.
If you notice at 1:25 he drops his false accent when he says something real about the housing development. He only talks to Colin in his false accent but others with his normal one...because he's trying to show how false Vendice is.

  • The DeHavilland Comet flying them around the prop World was a nice touch since these planes tended to blow up in flight before they discovered squared window ports caused cracks in the fuselage causing catastrophic failure. Even after the rounded windows were installed to eliminate the problem, the plane wouldn't sell, just in time for the Boeing 707 rolling off the line.

  • @buttermobile That's pretty interesting. But why do you think they used it in the film?

  • My Dad is in this film LOL!

  • so darn creepy!

  • Gotta love Bowie dancing on a big honkin' typewriter

  • More proof that Bowie is Emperor!

  • @buttermobile

    @Bodacea1

    That's really neat -- as Bowie's flying it he says "here's a product you will die for." Coincidence?

  • @hwicki We dont make fun of David Bowie. He is the EMPEROR (not the king but the emperor) of Modern Music, and you don't make fun of an emperor. It's not called for. :-) The Thin White EMPEROR is not a fellow to make fun of :-)

  • @Bodacea1 I dunno. Bowie's the emperor of modern music. That's all I know

  • @hwicki Now, since when is it called-for to poke fun at the Thin White Emperor?

  • "Ho ho ho" I laughed at that one
