I've only ever heard the Killer's version of this (I'm looking up the Dire Straits version next), but this one feels so much... more... than the Killer's. It sounds much more powerful, somehow. It's beautiful :)

I play this version of the song when I cover it.

Someone once told me that the Indigo Girls version of this song is about pain, where the Dire Straits version of the song is about love.

I tend to agree.

i think this is horrible..

I think she´s totally ruining the song,
nothing personal, but i really like dire straits more..

Excuse me, but that's just bullshit. That's what they wolud say after the cover gets more popular than the original. Dylan stopped performing House of the Rising Sun after the Animals recorded it as everybody thought it was their song. And Jimi was a huge fan of Dylan, he covered his song as he liked it.
Besides, I love the cover, but the Straits' version is more important for me.

I would point out that Sting's "Fields of Gold" charted in the U.S. when it was released as a single. To my original list of covers that are better than the original I have to add both the Isley Brothers' and the Beatles' cover of "Twist and Shout". I guess it just comes down to perspective: While I can appreciate the original I enjoy this version much more.
