A time-lapse movie, distilled from over 200,000 images, condensing a year's construction of a telescope dome into 3 minutes. The dome, which will house the 2.4-meter Automated Planet Finder (APF), is part of University of California's Lick Observatory, atop Mt. Hamilton, in the Diablo Range, east of San Jose. APF is devoted to the discovery of planets around other stars. Film by Anthony Misch, edited by Anthony and Nina Misch, soundtrack composed and performed by Paul Alcott, image archiving by Elinor Gates.

  • Reminiscent of Gort's headpiece from "The Day The Earth Stood Still". Marvelous.

  • @TralfazConstruction That excellent connection hadn't occurred to me but I'll now see Gort every time I watch "Dome." Klaatu barada nikto.

  • @aamisch I'm pleased. My late-mother indoctrinated me on that splendid film when I was five years old. She made me memorize that phrase too. Just in case. Nice to meet you.
