You've never experienced it. You may have 'rolled' with some kyu ranks, but obviously you've never trained with anyone serious or experienced. You should perhaps avoid statements you can't support with real knowledge.

It's an act? Really? Tell us about your extensive experience with Aikido Shihan. When Duran Sensei hit me it didn't feel like an act.

@multikultiraider, I know right! I think though because this is a demonstration nage is trying to show his technique as much as possible. Also, according to my limited experience, performing Aikido slowly is difficult since it doesn't utilize momentum. Hope it helps!

Unfortunately, the uninformed take for granted exactly what they see. Doran Sensei is a master, an 8th Dan in Aikido. I believe he is one of 5 in the USA. He has more than 50 years of study and is one of the warmest, kindest and strongest individuals I have trained with.
In answer to why he is moving so slow.. He is matching the speed of his opponent (or uke).
Anyone saying this art is better than that art is speaking from their emotions. Aikido is about blending, kind of like dancing.
