Good for practicing handswitching, and nice to lead into other rhythms. It starts slowly for playing along to, and gradually picks up in tempo
My hand drum "pseudo" notations are nice and simple, and only a guideline to get started since strike (slap, harder, softer, rim "silent" and so on) as well as tempo and pause length variations are not consistently indicated. Notations should be used in conjunction with the short video clip, or you can experiment and innovate with them to come up with your own rhythmic creation -- it's a lot of fun!...
The letters correspond as follows: (upper case) R or L = right/left hand center or bass strikes and (lower case) r or l = right/left hand rim or tone strikes which can vary as slaps or edge strikes.
"practice 17" is represented as: loop L-rlr-L-rlrl to R-lrl-R-lrlr
Is that a tape around your djembe? Or something different?

The whole symbol is carbon-based water marker. It wears off after a while, esp. where you strike. That symbol is long since gone, but i kept it for a while just touching it up when needed.

It's supposed to be the same - hence the title, and besides, monotonous drumming serves many purposes and constitutes the backbone of polyrythyms - repetition biulds motor memory. Need I go on?
