I just got iLife '08 today. I love what I've seen of Garageband so far, but nope, not loving iMovie '08. It's obviously a "dumbed down" version, which is rather nice for quick and dirty fast projects, but HORRIBLE if you want any kind of control.

Anyway, here's the first project. A fan video from the BBC 4 drama "Marie Lloyd," with Richard Armitage (of course). Music from one of the "Rambo" films, by Jerry Goldsmith. Yes, I know the music just sort of STOPS instead of fades out. I don't know how to change that.

*Shaking fist* WHY Apple, WHY?!?! At least you make iMovie '06 still available to everyone.

  • Try not to overdo it with all of the transitions. ^-^, It's not like you were given a lot of options with 08' though.

  • LOL! It wasn't like I was trying to make anything serious with this humble little 30 second video, either! I was mostly showing off the variety of transitions. (Not many options, you're right!)

  • I like what Apple has done to iMovie making it easier to trip clips and add title but, only one audio track? Also, I hear that you can't store your projects on external(USB drive) media. Any thuth to that?

  • I don't think it's true about storing of your projects. I store my media files on an external Firewire drive. iMovie saves project files in a folder in the Movies folder, but these project files could be moved for back up purposes.

  • This is an evil marketing ploy by apple to give mac users even slightly serious about editing video to have an incentive to splurge $300 dollars for FCE, frankly I think its foolish and can give competitors a foot hold in consumer video editing software where apple has dominated since consumer computer video editors came out.

  • I hope that this is not the case. It doesn't make sense. As you say, some competitors will make a sub-$100 video editing package for Macs and that will be it. My guess is that Apple has something planned in the relatively near future for people who are not quite ready to invest in FCE.

  • its easy to make a video but crazie trying to delete a video

  • I liked it!:)

  • iMovie 08 actually, as a matter of fact, has some more professional features. I tried the old (not really old) iMovie, and I could not control how long the music played. There were also some good features in the old one, but I did find a way to do them in the new one.

  • imovie 8 is a piece of shit aye

  • i like imovie 08. it lacks stuff but its better to use. About no timeline???Well, imovie 08 has a timeline; it looks different and better. I like the look and ease of imovie 08. If it had more transitions, video and audio fx then it would be the best

  • yeah. I was excited for the new iMovie, but it really isn't geared toward serious video editors. It seems more geared toward my parents generation who isn't as computer literate, and can make a simple video of they vacation without any complications from things like a timeline which I so dearly desire! ^-^ -Nuff Said

  • iMovie 08 is GREAT, well except for:

No Chapter Markers for a DVD

    No Share to iDVD

    No Timeline !!!

    No 'Save Frame'

No granularity (only global audio changes allowed)

    Loss of multiple audio tracks

    Loss of plugin support

We want a REAL upgrade to iMovie

I purchased and tried iMovie 08, I RAN back to iMovie 06, now iLife is good again.
